I have been a member of mynetdiary for close to two years with much success . However despite my best efforts and monitoring closely I have gained five pounds when I have created a calorie deficit daily and weekly . What is happening ?

Your body is storing any calories that you eat because it thinks it's not getting enough. Sometimes you can eat too little. Don't go under your daily goal. I have the same problem.

Weight gain - you are consuming more calories than the total that you are burning. So over time, you have reached a point of calories surplus. There is always error in estimated total calories expended, total calories consumed.

Use sedentary as your overall activity level and only log exercise minutes above and beyond incidental walking up to about a mile (20 min worth).
Also, if you suspect your tracking has drifted, then tighten up measuring portion size and make sure you are using appropriate food items. All of these things can help to help reduce error.

Any good weight gaining foods? I've never had a big appetite so need high fat low quantity type goods like peanut butter. And do I really have to drink 15 cups of water per day seems excessive

Hi Ladder, small frequent meals (e.g. 6 meals/day), adding healthy fats whenever you can, get enough protein (some dispute on this but maxing out at 2 grams/kg body weight given adequate calories intake should be more than enough), and experiment with foods/drinks so that you can get enough calories without losing your appetite. It isn't just about protein - get enough fat, carbs, and protein.
Liquids - water needs vary with level of activity, age, body weight, etc. Try to rehydrate through out the day. At meals, focus mostly on eating foods - a mixture of fat, carbs, and proteins would be great. Avoid consuming large volumes of liquids while trying to eat solid food - that can fill you up too quickly.
But liquid drinks with calories for snacks can help hydrate and give you calories. Careful with low carb protein drinks - they can fill you up without a lot of calories. That is great for weight loss but not great for weight gain.
