Hi Mistyblue- The keto diet can be safe in the short-term depending on your current health. If you are healthy at the start you should not have any issues. Though we always suggest checking with your doctor (who knows your health the best) before starting any new diet plan. Here is some more info on keto and how to do it safely. https://www.mynetdiary.com/get_started_on_keto_diet_the_right_way_5_steps_for_success.html

Hello Mistyblue- The keto diet is a high fat moderate protein diet.
It is unclear if following the keto diet may increase your chance of developing a kidney stone. Just like I mentioned before, we at MyNetDiary always suggest talking with your doctor first before starting any new diet plan. That way they can evaluate if the diet is appropriate for you and your unique health needs.
Here are a few things you can do to prevent kidney stones:
1. Maintaining a healthy weight will help
2. Stay hydrated, and drink lots of water every day.
3. If your body forms calcium kidney stones then avoid high oxalate foods. Some common high oxalate foods include: beer, beans, greens such as spinach, nuts.
In good health, Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

i have read the same about the keto diet increasing kidney stones too! i think if you drink plenty of water during the diet, it could reduce those affects and chances of kidney stones happening? there’s apps that remind u to drink water so that could help with that :0 tho I am not an expert! this is just what I’ve thought of! :D
