Reducing wine consumption Topic

I’m working to lose 20 pounds and am also looking to be smarter about wine consumption. I’m a wine lover and over the last decade, my consumption as crept up to nearly a bottle within one day - especially on weekends. So, now I’m focused on getting back down to a glass every now and then.

Good for you SabrinaRenée! Not only does wine rack up calories, but you will also have so much more energy to live life to the fullest when you cut back! It can really help to measure out the wine, then pour it into your glass and sip and savor instead of guzzling:) A lot of restaurants are pouring wine from a carafe into the glass. It's a great visual reminder of how it looks in those big 16-22 ounce glasses. Another tip for moderation and thrift is to get a wine sealer pump so you can vacuum seal the bottle after your first pour - then you don't feel obliged to drink it before it goes bad. You also get a little workout when you pump the sealer to suck out the air:) They're reasonably priced and it works out well since you're not wasting (or "waisting") a bunch of wine.

Keep us posted on how it's working out for you! Cheers to good health! Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

I have an alternate wine beverage. I used to drink a glass of wine a few times a week but this stopped during the pandemic.

My alternate drink is to take a chamomile tea(I like chamomile mango by Bigelow) and add some zero calories fruit flavoring. I drink it cold at night. I find chamomile lavender tea also is good with added fruit flavoring. Maybe it is psychological but I find chamomile slightly relaxing and the fruit flavoring gives it a winey taste.

Great post! I think it’s important to monitor the alcohol consumed. It’s so commonly promoted, yet so bad for you. I, too, am trying to find alternatives. 😎. @CeliaBoston the tree ideas sound like a great evening beverage. Chamomile and lavender are supposed to promote sleep.

Wow, obviously, I’m new here. By my serial code name, I need to figure out how to fix that.

I also heard the alcohol makes us care less about many calories we drink.

For yesterday, I PLANNED the three drinks. I did my workout, ate with minding the drinks planned, had 200 cal “left over” after the planned drinks at the end of the day. Guess what? I went over the daily calories… Ate what I wasn’t supposed to eat right after said drinks. So, yeah. No good.

If i have to give up drinking to be thin id rather remain fat😜

I’ve always preferred to chew my calories rather than drink them even though I like wine. And as Natalia noted it reduces common sense so I end up making bad choices. good luck, it’s hard to give up things. I’ve been known to stand in front of a mirror and shout at myself “what are you, 8 years old?”
