How to cut carbs Topic

I am about 25 lbs overweight and I am hoping to lose 40lbs. I have realized a big part of my problem is I eat too many carbs. Even to get my daily carb count to 200g takes an incredible amount of planning on my part. And I wind up under my calorie goal, which I don't actually want. Any suggestions?

Hi JuicyL, you might find guidelines for diabetes helpful in terms of lowering carbs in a healthful manner. Take a look at carb goals for meals and snacks here: http://www.mynetdiary.com/food-diary-for-diabetes.html
Some tips:
1. Replace some of the carb calories with those from healthy fats. Think nuts, seeds, avocado, etc (plant fats/oils that are not hydrogenated).
2. Replace some of carb calories with those from healthy proteins. You could aim for about 20 g protein at each meal, and some at snacks.
3. Keep the minimally processed/higher fiber carb foods in the diet, while reducing refined flour products and those with added sugar. But not all sources of sugar are bad for you. Keep fresh fruit in your diet : 2-3 servings (about 30-45 g total carbs worth) is a good place to start.

Google low carb vegetables and stick closer to them.
You'll be surprised that there's like barely any carbs in stuff like broccoli and cauliflower! You can eat a whole bowl of steamed broccoli for only 5g of carbs. Plus, the fibre content in the veggies will "cancel" out some of the carb content as it won't be digested and come out as poop :P
Carbs also come in the form of sugar. So anything high in sugar and labeled "low fat" usually will up your carb intake. I prefer whole foods like full fat Greek yoghurt or any vegetable in its whole form. You will feel fuller for longer I promise!

Ok so this is a little off the topic but I'm in search for a recipe to save my keto sanity. Ok so as a ketoer we have a variety of spreads available to us butter, cream cheese, peanut butter, almond butter every cheese spread known to man. So here's my problem, IVE GOT NOTHING TO SPREAD IT ON!!!!!!! UHGGG!!!!!!!! I don't crave the taste of bread anymore, but I crave the utility. I do the cloud bread recipe( mostly eggs whites if you don't know) but it lacks??does anyone out there have a decent bread recipe ??? Help!!!!

Carb killer
I don't have a bread recipe but a really great cracker recipe for dips and spreads and there's only 1.7g net carbs in a serving!

I also use a similar recipe for a replacement nacho chip or anytime I need a crunchy carb like texture. Sometimes I make something similar using just almond meal, an egg and some spices and use the same technique as this recipe to flatten it out, I score it with a pizza cutter before I put it into the oven

Check out sugar freedom.com for a 2 minute English muffin x I've not tried that yet but my daughter in law made something similar and it was delicious. Good luck x

One option might be "cloud bread"
It is a fair bread substitute for sandwiches

Juicy,
I have to eat low carb too. I had to:
- increase fats (not hard to do if you use olive oil for cooking vegetables, avacados are high in fat and fiber - I eat one for breakfast with coffee).
- increase protein (I eat more fish now - I discovered in the supermarket bags of pre portioned vacuum packed wild caught salmon, flounder, and cod.)
- increase fiber (substitute bread for high fiber low net card wraps, and eat more leafy high fiber, low starch vegetables). Your total carbs go up consuming more fiber, but if it replaces starches and sugars thats a goal.
Also, I have the occasional Atkins Frozen meal, which most have less than 5-8g net carbs per tray. And they don't taste too bad compared to other frozen meal brands. Cant have too much of these though because they tend to be high in saturated fat and sodium. But I found incorporating frozen meals eases with "the planning".
The beauty about MND is its great for planning, and will show you where you make mistakes, guiding you to your goal ultimately.
