Hi Folks, I recently started making this Cincinnati Turkey Chili in my slow cooker and it is delicious! The original recipe is at Cooking Light: is here: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/cincinnati-turkey-chili-0
My modifications to the original recipe are increases in certain ingredients:
1 lb of lean ground turkey (Jennie-O is my favorite brand)
1/4 cup tomato paste
8-12 fl oz of low sodium low fat chicken stock
1/4 cup ghiradelli 60% baking chips (dark chocolate)
Other tips:
I lower sodium by using No Added Salt canned diced tomatoes (Muir Glen has a fab fire roasted version) and I use Morton's Lite Salt instead of regular salt.
I usually don't make spaghetti with the chili - the chili is great wtihout it.
Enjoy!
Best,
Kathy

I have never in my life seen baking chips in a chili recipe.

Ha ha - I know! But this is a Cooking Light recipe and I swear the dark chocolate adds a lot of umami. My next version will use 100% unsweetened baking choc to see if it works as well. Not exacty mole, but maybe moving in that direction? :) Kathy

Thanks for the fun chili recipe! It was a hit (of course, I didn’t tell the kids about the chocolate in it!)
