I’ve been strictly following a keto diet for 6 weeks along with going to the gym for at least an hr 6 days a week but have not lost any weight at all. I’ve actually gained 1kg.
I am quite trim in my build and am just trying to shift 5kgs of excess belly/muffin top gained during covid lockdown earlier this year.
I was told that as I’m slim to start with that keto will not work for me for weight loss. I’m 5’4” and currently weigh 61kg if that helps.
Does anyone know much about this?

Hi U1191032416,
Sue just wrote a MyNetDiary article on this topic! Just published yesterday. Good timing for you! https://www.mynetdiary.com/lose-fat-not-muscle-by-following-these-dietitian-backed-tips-for-healthy-weight-loss.html You will learn that it is common to gain weight when building muscle because muscle weighs more than fat (but good news -muscle is metabolically much healthier and more efficient in calorie-burning).
You can certainly switch your diet plan to another approach if keto is not working for you. The High-Protein diet plan may be a better fit for you to help you build muscle while losing a small amount of midsection weight. Please see the above article to help you calculate your protein needs and then set up your targets in your settings. Hope this helps! Please keep the community posted! Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)
