Hi, I’m trying to recover from anorexia. I have to gain 17-18 lbs. I don’t have a meal plan or any health care professionals ( I can’t get any ). I was wondering if anyone has any advice, food options, tips, tricks, anything! I don’t know what to eat or how much to eat. I will try anything! Thanks! :)

Hi SimplyArtsy- Recovering from an eating disorder can be quite a journey. Here are a couple of tips:
1. Working alongside a therapist that specializes in eating disorders will greatly improve your chances of getting better and meeting your goals of living the life you want to live. It is the gold standard treatment for individuals with an eating disorder. Are you working with a therapist now? I cannot stress enough the importance of finding a therapist you connect with. They will help you learn to trust your body again, find ways to manage stress and rekindle a healthy relationship with food and your body.
2. Finding support through the help of friends, a community or church and family (if possible). Do you have someone you can turn to for support?
3. Partnering with a Registered Dietitian who works in tandem with your therapist is highly recommended. A Registered Dietitian can provide a meal plan for you that takes into account your preferences and food allergies/intolerances, answering your original question posed to forum. They will help you learn what normal/healthy eating looks and feels like. Such as helping you to determine when you are hungry/full, etc.
Finally, we at MND recommend discontinuing MND if you are working to recover from an eating disorder. The site is suited for adults who are trying to eat healthy and lose weight. This forum is not an appropriate place for a teen with an eating disorder.
Please understand that my concern is only for your safety. Please let me know you read this post. Be kind to yourself. Wishing you all the best in your healing. Joanna (Dietician)
