Maintenance calories very high Topic

I have reached my weight goal! But now the diet plan is saying that to maintain my weight I need to consume 2800 calories! While losing weight I was at 2190 calories. 2800 calories seems like a lot for someone with my frame and height. I am having a hard time eating that much food. I also struggle with the idea that I’m allowed to eat more food instead of being in a caloric deficit. I feel guilty eating that much food. It’s a totally new mindset I’m not used to.

I would say eat however much food you’re comfortable with, and if you’re still losing weight than you may want to adjust. Sometimes online calculators and apps can get the exact amount of calories you need wrong.

If you do end up needing to eat more than i would suggest eating higher dense calorie foods (try to find healthy options, like nuts and nut butter, whole milk, red meats, etc.)

Congrats on reducing your goal weight!

Hello Rob S. Congrats on reaching your weight loss goal! That is awesome.
As for weight maintenance, some individuals have found the weight maintenance predictive equations in the app to over-estimate their needs. Meaning that if they eat the suggested (in your case) 2,800 calories they will experience weight regain. I would suggest experimenting with 2,300-2,500 calories/day and see how it goes. To make this more manageable strive to eat a 600 calorie breakfast, 700 calorie lunch, 700 calorie supper and 2 (400 calorie) snacks. All apps like MyNetDiary use predictive equations to estimate calorie needs for weight loss and weight maintenance. Yet weight management is an art and a science and we are all unique in how our bodies work. A little bit of patience and experimenting will go a long way. Best to you in this new chapter~ Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

I’ll give that a shot. My workaround has been to snack on calorie dense snacks in between meals because I also get really hungry in between meals. Like dry roasted edamame. So good and 30g is 260 calories. Is that a healthy approach too? Now that my metabolic rate has increased I need more and more energy throughout the day. If I don’t have a protein shake before exercise I come close to passing out. My body needs constant fuel now.

Hello Rob.S-
Yes, dry roasted edamame is a good snack. Make sure to eat a carbohydrate-rich snack before your workout, to fuel your muscles.
