Confusion Topic

So I weigh 122kg
Have a bmi of 43

I’ve spoken to my GP and he has told me to go on a low carb diet, and get to a bmi of 23.
In order to get to 71kg which is what I would need to get to, to have a bmi of 23

I’d need to lose 50 kg.

I’m confused, as to wether it’s safe to lose almost half of one’s body weight.

I’ve also been told to minimise portions.

Now I have an hour glass figure but carry extra weight.

Please advise 😅

Hi Happygal17,

Thanks for reaching out. Stepwise weight-loss goals are more manageable than setting a sizable ultimate goal. A good rule of thumb is to lose 10% of your starting body weight for your first milestone. Many people also set short-term goals like losing 5 kg at a time. These milestones help you to experience success sooner. That is important for maintaining your motivation.

Here is an excellent article from our library that can help you set up a plan to move forward.

I have been trying low carb diet but not sure if keeping to carb tally is okay if the calories go over recommended total

I have been strictly follow low carb but find that calories get too high. Hard yo keep yo good balance

Hi U1191166020,

If weight loss is your goal, then I would keep calories within budget. That may mean that your carbs will be lower as well. Can you trim some of your protein and fat sources to further lower your calories? I would also monitor your weight loss as an indicator of your success. Please keep us posted! How do we track NET carbs? I can’t seem to find it. Thanks
