Any type1 diabetics out there? Topic

I have lost weight many time in my past life. Now as an insulin dependent diabetic, even tracking meticulously, I’m having trouble maintaining. It seems like this is where my body wants to be no matter what I do. Any thoughts?

Hi there! What a time is our body has a set weight that it really is the most comfortable at. As long as you are feeling good, doing healthy habits like exercising and getting yummy and nutritious food having a higher weight can be totally fine. It can lead to some problems as you’re older on your hips and knees.
But overall do what works best for you with your medical condition!

Hi Tennislady-
Welcome to MyNetDiary! Glad you found us~

Are you using an insulin pump? Using this type of technology can help reduce your total daily dose of insulin, making it easier to lose weight.

Are you struggling with lows and then inadvertently over-correcting? Over-correcting by eating a lot in a short period of time (which is easy to do) can make it harder to lose weight.

Do you were a continuous glucose monitor? This can help predict where your glucose is headed and increase your time in range. Keeping your glucose more stable can also help with weight loss.

Are you able to exercise on a regular basis? Sometimes just switching up your exercise routine can help burn more calories and increase muscle mass. This resource may help with home exercises: https://www.mynetdiary.com/can-t-get-to-the-gym-try-some-of-these-low-impact-exercises-at-home.html

Finally, some folks find it helpful to work with a certified diabetes educator who can review their glucose data and make weight loss suggestions based on insulin, food, and exercise. This resource can help you find a nutrition professional: https://www.eatright.org/find-a-nutrition-expert

Losing weight with Type 1 can be challenging, though not impossible!

Please keep us updated on your progress!

In good health~ Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

Thanks for your response. Yes I use a aCGM. Omnipod didn’t work for me. Recovering from 3 1:2 hours of neurosurgery on my back so yes I do exercise, but not like I used to. I do sometimes over calculate, but then there’s the times that I do everything right and the numbers are a roller coaster. I shouldn’t complain, I’m 84 years old and still hit some tennis balls. Just find the weight battle to be an exercise in frustration. Sorry for the rant.

Hi tennis lady! I am a type one diabetic I’ve known about it since I was 30 years old which was many years ago lol. I struggled with my weight all my life and it wasn’t until I was diagnosed with diabetes type one with neuropathy in my feet when I was in a wheelchair that I did some thing about it. I knew I wouldn’t live to be 52 if I kept going the way I was going, so I join Nutrisystem and I lost 72 pounds. I’ve kept it off for almost 20 years which in my mind is a miracle but in reality, I was never going to go back, no matter what I can sit here and say it’s insulin. I can sit here and say it’s not exercising, but the truth is, it’s what we put in our mouths. We have to burn more than we consume. That’s the bottom line and logging your food allows you to see what you are eating on a daily basis.

Last November I change my eating to plant-based 99% of the time. I say 99% because I will go out to restaurants with my parents who are blessedly still alive and have a grilled chicken breast once in a while, but most of the time I’m plant-based , I read the book mastering diabetes. I recommend you read this book and change my life and if you have a CGM and an insulin pump you’re ready to go. I hope this helps you in someway you’re not alone and you’re so inspiring don’t give up!

Sorry I was voice texting that post. Hahahaha.
