Low-carb breakfast Topic

Hi U1189326114- Thanks for sharing! The milk/protein blend is an interesting concept for a dry cereal. With 14g of protein for 1 cup- that is unique. Have a great week! Joanna

I’m pre-diabetic and have been told to stay away from fruit in the morning. I often veer towards avocado on ancient grain toast, sometimes with an over medium egg or other protein.

Hi there KQsf11- Sounds like a very healthy breakfast to me! Avocado (while technically a fruit) is rich in heart-healthy fats and dietary fiber. It is a healthy choice for anyone to eat.
Here's an article written by one of our in-house dietitians that I think you will find helpful about preventing diabetes-

When I do eat breakfast I like eggs - boiled, fried or scrambled with shredded cheese. No nitrate/nitrite bacon every once in a while. I even like dinner foods for breakfast like salmon steak with butter rubbed on top, chicken salad with mayo and onions or tuna salad with mayo and onions or a back angus burger with no sugar ketchup. Very satisfying.

Go to low carb protein waffles, or chocolate coffee smoothie, or 647 English muffin with egg and Canadian bacon!

Are chia seeds worth starting to us

Hi there U1192011354-
Chia seeds are healthy! One tablespoon contains 58 calories, 4g of fiber and 2g of protein. You can add them to smoothies, and oatmeal. You may also consider using them to make chia seed pudding. This recipe is low carb and part of our Premium recipe collection: https://www.mynetdiary.com/shareRecipe.do?id=23981871
Have a great day~ Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

I have to consider my colon. I love chia seeds but have colon issues after eating them. Same with to much kiwi😥

I'm trying Magic Spoon today for the first time. I see that it's sweetened with Allulose, Monk Fruit and Stevia mix. I'm trying to figure out why Carb Genius (My Net Diary) is counting Net Carbs from it differently than the box says. On the box, it says that it has 5 g net carbs, yet the app says it's 14 g. With a Keto diet plan, that's now 1/2 of my whole daily net carb count, so I'm curious how you treat this. Is it really right that the app makes it almost 3x the net carbs? I'm kind of curious how you handle the counting of net carbs when the app says different than a food label says.

Hi JeffG,
I looked at Magic Spoon Fruity Cereal online and also, in MyNetDiary to compare the net carbs (I wasn't sure which flavor you were logging). I think the problem is that MyNetDiary doesn't have an algorithm to account for subtracting allulose so the net carbs are showing higher. Right now, Net Carbs in MyNetDiary = Total Carbs - Fiber - Sugar Alcohols. This is an interesting problem since I'm sure there are other products that use allulose too. I'll bring this issue up with the other dietitians at MyNetDiary - it's important to get an accurate net carb value on a low carb diet. We will figure out a solution.

In the meantime, I did a "copy & customize" off the fruity magic spoon cereal and entered allulose grams under sugar alcohols so it could correct the net carbs to match the cereal box. If you are trying to limit sugar alcohols and don't want to use that workaround, I understand - I know that allulose is not a sugar alcohol. But it does correct the net carbs value so that it matches the cereal box value.

Thanks so much for taking the time to let us know about this problem!

Best,
Kathy (MyNetDiary dietitian covering for Joanna)
