Catching high calorie foods! Topic

My daily intake is normally about 1200-1500 calories and my exercise usually burns 200-500 calories. The numbers say I should be losing about 3 lbs a week, but the actual has been 1.5 lbs. Not sure why. When I was in my forties the numbers worked just like they said they should. I think it would take 2200 calorie diet now to just maintain my current weight and if I actually get to 225, I am afraid I will need to limit myself to 1500. We will see.

Hi Jloughlin,
1.5 pounds a week is great! Think of it like 1.5 pounds of butter. When you lose more gradually, it is much more likey you are losing fat tissue. When people lose quickly there is the risk of losing muscle and water along with fat so slower is smarter, although takes patience.
I love your soup idea! Definitely mix up the types so you don't get tired of one soup. I am actually blogging next month on prepping ingredients and foods in advance for healthy eating. Are there any ingredients you prep in advance in bulk for your soups?
Re: the calorie inake, the one question I have is whether you are carefully measuring portions. When we "eyeball" portions that tsp can easily turn into a tablespoon or the 3/4 cup to 1 cup so the true calorie intake is higher. I, myself have experienced this, along with many others. We are masters at underestimating our food portions. It's human nature.

Yes I am good with 1.5 lbs a week, but wish I could get there and occasionally cheat a little. I haven’t seen a beer or a cookie in six months. I try to be careful about weighing and recording my food. I occasionally have a busy day that does not get recorded properly and so my records would show some days with only 400-500 calories. That never happened, but you can bet I did stay under my 1500 ceiling.
By the way how many calories in a half cup of air popped corn with nothing added. I have been using 404. Is that right? Seems high.

Hi Jloughlin,
1/2 cup air popped popcorn that is popped is only 15 calories. You must be looking at the unpopped amount if it says 404.
Sure sounds like you are on the right track. A 12 oz Mich Ultra has only 95 calories if you can fit that in occasionally;)

I was talking about a half cup of unpoppped corn. That is what I make myself occasionally when I have had a very low calorie day. Today I am way under with less than 700 so far after my evening meal. Will probably eat something else just because I have not eaten enough.
Would rather drink water than Mich Ultra, but I do like Guinness Stout and it is only 120 ;)

HI Jloughlin,
Wow- I had to double-check on the Guinness Stout. Indeed, it is 125 calories for 12 ounces. Not too bad!
I see 320 calories for 1/2 cup unpopped popcorn (Orville Redenbacher) so sounds like you are quite close.
Take care, and keep on tracking!
Best,
Sue

It’s been a good week. Down 2.5 lbs. due for a plateau. I have really been diligent since the first of the year and it is working. I down 16 and only have 9 to go and three months to do. I could possibly beat my goal b 10 lbs if I stick to it.
Wish your charts would show how far ahead or behind schedule you are with your plan.
