adding recipe to tracker - ingredients Topic

Hi -- I want to add a recipe to my tracker using all of the ingredients rather than just the recipe title. I toggled add ingredients (instead of add recipe) but even if I only add a portion in serving size it adds the entire recipe to my tracker. Is there a way for MyNetDiary to calculate and only add a portion of the recipe to my tracker when using ingredients?

Hello Changing4life- Great question! I am wondering if this is what happened to you- This info is from our article on how to enter recipes,
"The most common mistake people make while entering customized recipes for batches (that is, recipes that yield multiple servings) is that they don't enter the total yield of their recipe in the "Serving Description" field. When this field is left blank, the default is "1 serving." This is fine if your recipe is truly a single serving, but a hassle if it is a pot of chili or a pizza.
To give you more portion size options for food records, be sure to enter your recipe's total yield in either a volume measurement (e.g. 10 cups, 1 quart, etc) or a descriptive measurement (e.g. 10 fillets, 12 slices, 6 cupcakes, etc). MyNetDiary already does the grunt work of calculating the recipe weight for you so don't bother using weight as your yield since you lose portion size opportunities!
Also, if you use standard volume measurements (e.g. 10 cups) for your total yield then the system will be able to calculate other volume units of measure too (e.g. tablespoons, teaspoons, fl oz, etc.).
TIP: Take the time to measure the yield of a recipe if you plan to use it frequently – it will reduce error. "
I would suggest taking the time needed to enter in the entire recipe (each ingredient). I use a food scale to weigh my ingredients one by one. And then make sure to enter the total yield as stated above. Let me know if you have any other questions or if this does not make sense. Here is the entire article on entering recipes. Best, Joanna

I use only a home desk computer and have had no luck at finding a way to insert a recipe to get nutrition info if it is not provided in the recipe. How can I calculate these meals because I cook so much and rarely go out to eat or buy already made products that pop up when entering them into my "foods" category. Help !!

Hello Lormalee- It is possible to enter all the ingredients used in a recipe as well as it's yield and then determine the cals and macros per serving. Here is an article on just how to do this. Let us know if you have any additional questions. Best! Joanna (Dietician)

ok I am lost. I've seen where people say to hit the "add recipe" button...I don't have one. Only an "new food" that doesn't let you enter recipes. The help page just says to enter the recipe with no mention of how or where. I am not on a phone or ipad. What am I missing ?! It shows I have the maximum plan so do I need to add some other program. Fit to be tied old woman. agh!

Hi Lormalee, let us know if you still need assistance. You should be able to enter recipes from app or web program directly from the meal screen. You'll get used to it once you do it a few times. Best, Kathy

Have been using the recipe option, but have a question. I enter the recipe by ingredient and it asks how many servings the total recipe is for, but when I actually add to a daily meal entry, I can't get it register just 1 serving. What am I doing wrong ?

Custom Recipes - Hi Lormalee, you probably just need to enter the total recipe yield in the Servings or Total Servings field (it is just below the recipe name). The default value is 1 serving when you don't enter a different value. When I make sauces and stews, I always measure and enter my total yield in volume so I have the option of entering cups or fl oz, etc. I also weigh the total yield of the recipe and enter that in the total weight field too (this means a more accurate weight for the total recipe since it accounts for evaporative losses).
You can edit recipes in web program (login with your account name and password) if you use an iPhone app. If you use the Android app, you can edit the recipe by tapping the 3-dot icon at the top right hand corner of the screen and selecting edit.
This short post has some tips on entering custom recipes: https://www.mynetdiary.com/tips-for-accurate-recipes.html
Let me know if that helps. If you still need assistance, be sure to tell me exactly which recipe is causing you trouble and I can copy it and look at it.
Best, Kathy
