Low Calorie Snack Ideas Topic

OK, so I'm a third of the way there... Yahoo for me! But if I eat another raw, tasteless vegetable or an equally tasteless pretzel as a "snack" I think that I will cry. So I'm sending this question out to MyNetDiary fellow calorie counters. What is/are your favorite low calorie snacks? Please note that I consider "low calorie" less than 150 calories and, preferrably, less than 100 calories. Also, I'm looking for ideas in all of basic snacking food groups: salty, sweet, sour, savory, crunchy and, of course, chocolate. Hope to hear from you soon.

- DSS (Desparately Seeking Snacks)

As far as under 150 calories - I personally prefer 180 cal snacks as they seem to sustain me better, but I have a few under 150. I enjoy applesauce, special k bars (esp useful when traveling), danon smoothie yogurts (yum!), a glass of red wine (doesn't sound like a snack, but red wine is great for you and tends to diminish my need for sweet items like chocolate), ice cream sandwiches - often times you can get one for 130 calories - a great afternoon snack and satifies your hunger and your need for something sweet, soups - lots of soups are often under 100 calories and make you feel like you are eating something substantial, and lastly sunflower seeds. If you find the desire for something around 180 calories - I love slim fast (not as a meal - as a snack), luna bars (again, portable), quaker oatmeal packets, eggs, a can of tuna fish (only 125 cal), and non diet soda. Hope that's useful!

I try to eat something with protein or fat in it to fill me up. 100 cal doesn't do it. South Beach protein bars are good and under 150 cal. Greek yogurt with a little fruit and some cinnamon and stevia if needed. Small low carb tortilla with 1 oz of deli ham or turkey and mustard. A package of instant oatmeat with a few nuts, or weight loss oatmeal. Diet chai latte (chai tea in tea bags with diet vanilla syrup and hot skim milk) or a skim milk steamer (steam or heat milk and add sugar free syrup--tastes like white hot chocolate) or latte. Hot things seem more satisfying to me, esp. in the winter. If I need to crunch on something along with this, I add veggies like cherry tomatoes or sugar snap peas. If I give myself larger and more filling snacks, I can be a more controlled eater at meals. Good luck to you, and congrats on your success so far!

Thank you so much. Love the idea of soups, I'm definitely going to try that. And cinnamon with my fruit and greek yogurt also a winner. Thanks so much! I also love the idea of the "steamer"... but one question, when you referred to the "sugar free syrup" in the case of the steamer, were you referring to the same diet vanilla syrup that you use for the diet chai latte?

Soup is great. I really like the Pacific cashew carrot ginger soup. It's only got 120 calories for a full cup. Mmm...

Also, if you want something over 150, but VERY satisfying, try the Zone Perfect dark chocolate bars. Lots of protein and vitamins and only 190 calories.

Soup is a great snack, and if it has veggies, is usually a great source of potassium. However, for those of you with high blood pressure, try to pick the lower sodium soups or consume homemade if you have a choice. Regular commercial soup can be quite high in sodium (500 - 800 mg sodium/cup is typical).

Try weight watchers caramel wafers or the Tesco's equivalent, 80 calories of chocolate fun.

This will be added to my grocery list. Thanks!

1. Vitalicious muffin tops. They are 100 calories OR you can get the low sugar kind in chocolate or banana nut, which are only 80 cals (I sometimes eat two of these for a snack). They are amazing and filling. If you can't find them in grocery store, order online. Need to be kept in freezer.

2. Skinny cow chocolate truffle bars. 100 calories. Awesome.

3. greek yogurt with chocolate flavored stevia, a tablespoon of cocoa nibs (like sweet riot) and a table spoon of smartbran or uncle sams cereal for crunch.

Try an Asian apple pear with almond butter, and carrots with hummus and cucumber with tzaziki-all inthe right calorie range and super tasty/ satisfying
